Robert E. Lingle

Artist Statement

BACKGROUND

Robert Lingle, born in Florida, spent most of his youth in northern New Mexico. After graduating from the University of New Mexico with a BA in liberal arts, he became a pilot for the United States Navy and eventually for United Airlines. He took early retirement from the latter in order to devote full time to painting. He moved to El Paso, Texas, in 1992, where he shares a life of painting with his artist wife, Elizabeth Galvin.

ART EDUCATION

From 1976 through 1978, while flying for United Airlines, Mr. Lingle studied drawing and painting with Michael R. Christiana and Dale P. Marchione at Northwestern Connecticut Community College in Winsted, Connecticut. He resumed his formal art education in 1986, the year of his early retirement from United Airlines, at the Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, Connecticut. He studied drawing and painting there with Ms. Jakki Kouffman of New York City until moving to El Paso in 1992.

Since most of Mr. Lingle's formal art training consisted of painting models and landscapes, his earliest paintings began with an exploration of this subject matter. However, these paintings invariable evolved into imaginative interpetations of what he saw. Many of his latest paintings are exclusively works of his imagination.

COLLECTIONS

Mr. Lingle's paintings are in various collections in Texas, New Mexico, Connecticut, New York, Montana, Oregon, and Chihuahua, Mexico.
